Extruding the Unthinkables
The use of one or more pairs of augers
combined with the transversely mounted power feed roll
results in product being stuffed into the augers and down
their tunnels at a controlled rate. The action of the augers
and the power feed roll results in the 'burping back' of
entrained air such that it is a solid product stream that is
extruded from the extrusion die. This is so important for
ensuring product weight accuracy.
The amount of product that can be extruded in a given period
of time is dependent upon many factors including the
viscosity and density of the product as well as its unique
rheological properties, the size and shape of the die
opening, the temperature of the product and the special
process considerations such as susceptibility to shear,
pressure or slight temperature rise.
Each application
is assessed on its own merits and product testing is done on
our pilot plant equipment, when necessary to fully
understand the product and its unique characteristics.
Special heated or cooled dies are employed to aid the
process or to produce a certain surface finish or texture. Whether you want to produce blankets, tubes or niblets of
product, ... we're ready and willing to get involved, to
assess your specific product using pilot plant testing
equipment, to videotape the results for your inspection and
to offer ideas and solutions.
We will be glad to assess your product using pilot plant
testing equipment and send a video clip of the results.
